NoName Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Philadelphia’s Chestnut Hill neighborhood, founded by owner and curator Jonene Lee. Built around the belief that original art should feel accessible—not intimidating—NoName connects emerging and established artists with people who want to discover meaningful work, whether they are seasoned collectors or buying their first piece.

The gallery began as a small pop-up exhibition following the pandemic and quickly grew into a permanent creative space in the neighborhood Jonene calls home. Today, NoName presents bold, thoughtful work by artists from diverse backgrounds, with a particular commitment to urban and Black contemporary art. Through rotating exhibitions, artist conversations, workshops and community events, the gallery creates opportunities for people to experience art as part of everyday life.

NoName is more than a place to view art. It is a space where people can gather, ask questions, connect with artists and find work that genuinely speaks to them. There is no pressure to understand everything, know the right language or arrive ready to buy. Curiosity is enough.

Jonene was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022 and faced a recurrence in 2025. Even while navigating treatment and recovery, she has remained committed to keeping the gallery open, supporting its artists and continuing to build a creative community in Chestnut Hill.

The Story Behind First Fridays

When I opened NoName Gallery in 2022, I wanted to create something that reached beyond the gallery walls. Chestnut Hill already had incredible shops, restaurants, artists and creative people, but I saw an opportunity to bring everyone together in a way that made the neighborhood feel alive after hours.

That idea became First Fridays: Arts & Eats. I began inviting local businesses to stay open late, host artists, offer food and drinks, play music and create their own reasons for people to move up and down the Avenue. What started as a simple idea grew into a monthly celebration of art, food, small businesses and community—one that gives people a reason to gather while helping introduce new audiences to everything Chestnut Hill has to offer.

This year, I was honored to receive an award from the Chestnut Hill Business Association for creating First Fridays. To have an idea that began with a desire to support my neighbors recognized by the neighborhood itself means more to me than I can adequately put into words. First Fridays has always been about what can happen when a community shows up for one another, and I’m incredibly proud of what we have built together.
