Family isn’t always inherited — sometimes it’s built, brushstroke by brushstroke.

“Family in the Making” explores how three artists from Germantown — David Sweeny, Nina Hurwitz, and Tony Howard (TYWHO) — transformed a shared workspace into something deeper: a chosen family bound by creativity, trust, and collective growth.

What began as three artists sharing a studio at the Braid Mill evolved into a living, breathing support system. Each artist brings a different voice — the brush, the pen, and the knife — yet their work speaks in harmony. Together, they reveal what happens when individual visions collide, collaborate, and ultimately strengthen one another.

This exhibition celebrates the messy, beautiful, unexpected ways family forms in creative spaces. It’s about showing up for each other, lifting each other’s work, and building something bigger than any single artist could make alone.
