A Trip To St. Michaels Island

I'm 50 now. May 12th was the big day and originally I had the grand idea of throwing a party at the gallery. It was going to be a big one after all because, well ... 50. But then the thought crossed my mind "who's going to plan it?" ... ME?! Absolutely not. The main joy of having a birthday party is not planning it so I quickly changed my mind.

I told Marc "Forget the party. I want to go somewhere quiet near the water" and he suggested St. Michael's Island in Maryland. It's cute, quiet and near the water. I had zero expectations because I was grateful just to be able to get away from my normal day to day routine. Sometimes just breaking your routine and getting into a different environment can help spark a creative surge (which I'm always in search of).
It was a short trip : Sunday - Tuesday, but it was the perfect getting away for my birthday and Mother's Day.
I'm not going to lie, it gives Chestnut Hill vibes, for sure. Everyone is super friendly and says hello to you as you're walking by. I've gotten used to that type of behavior since living in Chestnut Hill. Whenever I go into the city and people don't make eye contact and say hello, I get offended ... not so much offended but I'm certainly not used to it. I think it's because I prefer a slower, laid back life. I need to wake up in the morning and have 3-4 hours of alone time before dealing with the public ( yes that's 100% a true story).
We got there on Sunday night after stopping in Annapolis for dinner. Saturday we walked EVERYWHERE ... Marc is an explorer and planner. He plans all of our trips along with where we're going to eat, shop and browse art. It's a personality trait I didn't know I needed in a person because I am not a planner type. For vacations anyway. Plus, Marc spent some of his younger years during the summers in St. Michaels so I had my own personal tourist guide.
See ... isn't it the cutest?! If you're looking for a quick affordable getaway, I recommend St. Michael's Island. O and we stayed at the Wildset Hotel right in the center of town. They're dog friendly as are most of the shops and restaurants too!

Happy belated 50th! Deciding not to plan your own party is definitely the way to go for maximum enjoyment. For anyone considering their next travel destination, especially to Italy with a beautiful lakeview, you might find the information on how to get to Cannobio relevant.
